Connor Wilhelm, MS, Experimental Pathology PhD candidate in Alexander Boyden, PhD’s lab, has received a trainee travel grant from the Center for Immunology and Immune Based Diseases. The travel grant will cover the costs of registration, travel, and lodging associated with attending scientific conferences over the next year.

Vladimir Badovinac, PhD and his research lab have been awarded a new five-year R35 research grant from the NIH/NIGMS entitled “Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Controlling Sepsis-Induced Immunoparalysis State.” The award totals $2,138,125. The project (R35GM161623-01) began on September 17, 2026 and will conclude on May 31, 2031.

On September 21, 2026, the department celebrated our Medical Laboratory Science students at the Kirkwood Regional Center for our annual scholarship ceremony.

Congratulations to Maddisen Dwelley, BS and Paul Ntasin, BS on their award for the Emory Warner Experimental Research Fellowships.

Pornphan (Ying) Sae-Sim, MD, Anatomic and Clinical Pathology PGY-2, is a top five abstract winner for her work, “Clinicopathologic and Molecular Features of Fusion-Positive and Fusion-Negative Pleomorphic Sarcomas: A Single Institution Study,” which will be presented at the CAP 2026 annual meeting.

After 28 years of service at the University of Iowa, Dr. Chris Jensen has retired. Upon his retirement, Dr. Jensen has been appointed Professor Emeritus of Pathology.
