The Molecular Pathology Laboratory is committed to the development of new and advanced molecular testing for disorders in oncology and hematology, genetic, and infectious diseases.
Testing in the laboratory includes targeted mutation detection, quantification and mutation profiling of several types of cancers (leukemia, melanoma, lung and colon), diverse testing in the area of neuromuscular diseases including an emphasis on congenital and limb-girdle muscular dystrophies, and specialized molecular virology testing.
Requests for testing
- Requests for University of Iowa Health Care in-house testing can be obtained through the Laboratory Services Handbook.
- Requests for University of Iowa Diagnostic Laboratories (UIDL) testing can be obtained through their Test Directory Handbook.
UIDL operates the reference laboratory/outreach client services for clinical and anatomic pathology testing and consultation. The molecular pathology requisitions for UIDL requests for testing can be found within each test entry.
Fellowship programs
The Department of Pathology offers subspecialty training in molecular genetic pathology and clinical microbiology. The Fellowship in Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) is fully accredited and has several years of experience in successfully training fellows.
