On behalf of the Imogene Fisher family, the Imogene Fisher Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to deserving students pursuing a degree in a Graduate Program at the University of Iowa.
Imogene Fisher was a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical Technology Program and worked at the University of Iowa Health Care Bone Marrow Lab as a medical laboratory technologist, retiring after 32 years of service. These scholarships are awarded to current University of Iowa graduate students in the Pathology MS or Experimental Path PhD programs.
Two $1500 scholarships will be awarded this year.
The Scholarship award is based on the submission of a 1,500–2,000-word, double-spaced essay addressing the topic below. The essays will be evaluated by Graduate Program Oversight Committee.

Application deadline
Applications will be accepted starting August 1st. The deadline for submission is August 31st @5pm. Winners will be announced during the month of September.
Essay topic:
Describe your academic and career goals, how your graduate education has prepared you to achieve them, and one experience that best demonstrates the application of your graduate training. Explain your role, the impact of your contributions, and how this experience influenced your professional development and future career aspirations.
Evaluation process
- Email announcement in July with instructions for how to apply.
Applications to be returned to Gabe Young (gabriella-young@uiowa.edu) by 5 p.m. August 31st.
- Review by Scholarship Committee in September. The essays are judged on:
- Content,
- Organization,
- Mechanics/format and
- Style/readability
- Announcement and email sent to winners during September.
- Department of Pathology to provide payment to the winners. If you have a U-Bill account, it will be directly deposited.
