I grew up in Davenport, Iowa, right on the Iowa–Illinois border. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology from The University of Iowa. During my undergraduate years, I gained experience in both clinical and research settings. I first worked in clinical anatomical pathology as a student technician before moving into research. I then joined the Iowa Neuropathology Lab and Brain Bank, where I worked hands-on with human brain tissue while contributing to neurodegenerative disease research.
I enjoy research because I love the trial (...and mostly the error) since there’s always another approach to try, no matter how badly the first attempt goes. These experiences confirmed my passion for pathology and inspired me to pursue my M.S. in the field. For my graduate program, I have joined Dr. Marco Hefti’s lab, where I will continue exploring questions in neuropathology while building my skills as an independent scientist.
Outside of the lab, I love doing crafts and spending time with animals, and I volunteer regularly at the Iowa Farm Sanctuary. I have two dogs back home in Davenport and enjoy kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, and generally being outdoors.
