David and Pamela Buhr scholarship awards 2025
Left: David Buhr, Hanna Gee, Pamela Buhr. Right: Lexi Mcintyre joined virtually to thank David and Pamela Buhr.

On Friday, October 17, the department celebrated our Medical Laboratory Science students who received the David and Pamela Buhr Medical Laboratory Sciences Excellence Fund. Hanna Gee and Lexi McIntyre are fourth year students in the program.  Hanna will be starting her clinicals in the Spring here in Iowa City and Lexi will be finishing her final year and clinicals through our partnership with Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines.

David and Pamela Buhr made the stop to Iowa City to deliver the awards. David delivered remarks about his time in the Medical Laboratory Science program and his work in establishing other Medical Laboratory Science programs in Missouri after noticing a decline in young populations applying for similar programs and lack of programs, which was a major motivator in his and Pamela's decision to do the same at their alma mater.

This scholarship is provided by David and Pamela Buhr. David Buhr is a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Science program, using the GI Bill after serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. He later worked for The Joint Commission as a laboratory surveyor and healthcare consultant and retired after serving 30 years in a large rural medical center.  Pamela Buhr attended the University of Iowa and later worked at two medical centers, eventually retiring from the Missouri Orthopedic Institute at the University of Missouri.
