What are selectives?
Medical students are required to complete a set number of selectives and can use their experiences there to gauge their interest in various departments, learn the basics of the subject, and/or understand what services those departments have to offer so that they can better utilize them during their own medical practices in the future. It also often inspires them to sign up for advanced electives in areas of interest within a department that they might otherwise not have known about.
