Kai Rogers, MD, PhD, a resident/fellow in the Pathology physician-scientist training program specializing in transfusion medicine and immunology, received the Future Leader Transfusion Medicine and Biotherapies Fellow Scholarship Award from the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB). The award was given for his manuscript titled "A Murine Model of Extracorporeal Photopheresis as a Targeted Immunotherapy for Multiple Sclerosis," which was also the basis for the proposal that received a grant award through the NIH R25/UE5 Program, detailed here.

The announcement and presentation of the award, accompanied by a monetary prize for academic supplies, took place at the AABB 2024 Annual Meeting, held on October 18–22, 2024 in Houston, Texas.

Per the AABB, “The TMBF Awards Program was created in 1982 to recognize professionals with an MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent degree who are current fellows or a recent graduate (within 12 months of the time of application for this award) in a transfusion medicine program, cellular therapy program or other graduate medical education training program that includes at least one continuous year in transfusion medicine or biotherapies/cellular therapy training.” Submissions take the format of a scientific manuscript covering work primarily performed during a TM Fellowship.
