Dr. Jian Zhang has been invited to give a talk at the Major Symposium B of the annual American Association of Immunologists (AAI) meeting

 The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Program Committee has invited Dr. Jian Zhang to serve as a speaker in the Major Symposium B (Macrophage Biology, Diversity, and Inflammation) at IMMUNOLOGY2022^TM, to the annual meeting of The AAI, being held May 6-10, in Portland, OR. Dr. Zhang will present the most recent progress on the regulation of innate immunity by protein ubiquitination in his laboratory during the last several years. The title of his talk is “Regulation of innate immune responses by E3 ubiquitin ligases”. Other five invited speakers are Dr. Claudia V. Jakubzick from Dartmouth, Kristin L. Patrick from Texas A&M University, Dr. Gwendalyn J. Randolph from Washington University in St. Louis, Thirumala-Devi Kanneganti from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Dr. Edward B. Thorp from Northwestern University.

Dr. Yilei Ma from Zhang Lab wins an American Association of Immunologists Abstract Awards

Dr. Yilei Ma has been awarded an American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Abstract Award to present his research findings on HECT E3 Nedd4 in non-canonical inflammasome activation at the Block Symposium “Innate Immune Sensing and Signaling” of the annual AAI meeting in Portland, OR, May 6-10, 2022.  Yilei is a Postdoctoral scholar in Dr. Jian Zang’s laboratory and is working on how HECT E3 ubiquitin ligase Nedd4 controls caspase-11-mediated non-canonical inflammasome activation and endotoxemia. He found that Nedd4 expression in the myeloid cells is crucial for caspase-11-mediated innate immune response induced by cytosolic sensing of LPS. This effect is achieved by targeting E-Syt1, a key regulator of caspase-11 oligomerization, for ubiquitination and degradation.  The title of his abstract is “E-Syt1 ubiquitination by Nedd4 limits the caspase-11-mediated non-canonical inflammasome activation and endotoxemia”.
